100 Books Before Graduation

Attention High School Students! The Library has a program to encourage teens to continue reading through high school called 100 Books Before Graduation! Here’s how it works: students will record the books they have read in increments of ten. Once a student has read ten books their name will be featured on the “Wall of Fame” in the Teen Area. For every ten books a student reads they will “move up” a level on the Wall of Fame. Once a student has read 100 books, the library will purchase a book in the student’s name for the collection. Call or stop into the library for more information!

Sewing for You - A Community Service

Volunteer seamstresses will be in the front half of the meeting room offering their time and services to mend your clothing at no charge to you. Bring your torn, ripped garments to the Salem-South Lyon Library on Thursday mornings. Sorry, no formal wear. The volunteers reserve the right to turn away items.

Teen Time

3:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Reads Teen Time Tuesday and Thursdays. Surrounded by notebooks, pencils, and protractor.

Formerly known as Teen Only Study time, join other library teens for this program in the Teen Area to study, relax, and have a snack. Study spaces will be reserved for teens. Small activities, crafts, or board games will be available. This program will be held every Tuesday and Thursday during the school year beginning January 9- June 14.

Straw Bale Gardening

John Keast and Chris Melcher, Advanced Master Gardener and Certified Straw Bale Garden Instructors, will teach you how to get started with Straw Bale Gardening. A way to garden without weeds, you have the ability to locate your garden anywhere with sun. Use it to grow your vegetables, herbs, and flowers in a way that is great for people with mobility challenges. Registration required.

Caregivers and babies are invited to join us for this drop-in, unstructured baby playtime. It is a perfect time to play and provide interaction with other children while caregivers get to know one another. Stay for just a few minutes or for the entire hour. This event is intended for children ages birth - 2 and their caregivers. No registration is required.

Musicians of all instruments and skill levels are welcome to play songs, merge new ideas, learn theory and make new friends. Each month we will look at a different theme and have a list of songs to play. However, we are always open to whatever ideas and suggestions anyone brings to the session.

We might look at songs from artist like: The Eagles, Prince, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, James Taylor, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, KISS, The Who, Jim Croce, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and so many more...
